Growth Groups are a great place to build relationships, be equipped for the challenges of life and grow in God.

Here at Iowa City Church we take our mission very seriously…we want to make disciples of Jesus. The truth is, that isn’t going to happen if you are hanging around the outside looking in; going to a worship service will only take you so far. If you have been a part of our church for a while, but you haven’t joined a growth group it’s probably time for you to take the “next step”—it’s time for you to join a growth group.

A growth group is a group of 5 to 15 people who meet during the week, in a variety of homes and apartments around the Iowa City, Coraville, North Liberty area. There goal in meeting is to help one another follow Jesus better.

To grow as a disciple, you need to surround yourself with friends, peers who are on the same journey as you. A growth group provides you with a new group of friends who want to live life with you.

When life is good or not so good, it’s always good to know that you have a group of people who are always praying for you. Whether at group or during the day, prayer is a mainstay of a growth group.

The best way to grow is to serve together as a group; whether it’s serving at church, building a house or going on a mission trip, ministry is an essential element of growing as a disciple of Jesus.

Discipleship requires a regular study and application of Jesus’ teachings. Everytime you meet in your growth group, a portion of your time will be spent in studying Scriptures and discussing questions that were directly related to the sermon that was preached the previous Sunday.

Any kind of growth requires accountability. The same is true on this journey of following Jesus. You are not going to grow on your own! You need others in your life who are going to ask questions, give encouragement, or make that phone call when you need a nudge.
